Ross' Weekly Sip: Burgundy

If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me “what’s your favorite wine,” I would in fact be a rich man. Many times, as people do, I’ve contemplated what if I could only choose one.  While choosing a single bottle would be immediately written off as an impossible task, I honestly believe I could drink wine from a single region for the rest of my life, with no complaint. Said region would just need to fulfill everything I love about wine, in every possible style, and only one region on earth could fulfill that tall order. Burgundy.

Crisp, dry Crémant de Bourgogne that rivals the great sparkling wines of Champagne. Mineral driven Chablis that pairs perfectly with oysters (a personal favorite). The powerful, French oak aged Chardonnays of Montrachet and Meursault. The aromatic splender that is undoubtedly the greatest Pinot Noir produced anywhere on Earth. The high acid, hidden gem that is Aligote. The underappreciated Cru Beaujolais that rivals the great Premier and Grand Cru Pinot Noirs of the Côte d’Or. Burgundy has ALL OF IT.

While wine professionals and collectors around the world would agree that Burgundy is a shoo-in contender for the greatest wine region in the world, my years in restaurants and retail have proved to me that there is still work to be done, proving this to the general consumer. It can be a daunting task to share one thousand years of winemaking tradition in just a table touch or a blog post. That’s why I’m finally living out a long-time dream of mine, to bring all these wines into one place, and share them all with you.

On Tuesday, December 11th, 5-8pm at our Brookside location, I will be hosting alongside Aaron Fry, Advanced Sommelier of Vintegrity Fine Wines, an open invite, free tasting featuring wines from across all the aforementioned regions. Please join us and find out what the wine community has been raving about for generations.
