Post-Thanksgiving Beer Blog

I hope your Thanksgiving holiday was filled with lots of good friends, family, and beer.  My family came down from Kirksville and had dinner at my house in KC, and it was really cool to start things off with a growler of the Mike’s/Double Shift collab. IPA, Y-ZAH!   My parents aren’t beer connoisseurs by any stretch, but they thought it was really cool that I got to help brew a beer for work!   I’m definitely thankful for this job, and all the lifelong friends i’ve met in the KC beer community as a result. This is a great city and it has been awesome to see our tiny corner of the beer world evolve, especially with the trend towards more and more local products.

For anyone who missed it, Y-ZAH!  is a hazy IPA that we helped brew with our friends at Double Shift Brewing.  Coming in at 7.8% ABV, and hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, and El Dorado, this beer is packed with juicy tropical notes.  We loved it [3 day old] fresh, but it really has hit its stride the past few days. We can’t stop drinking it. As for collabs, I should also remind you that we still have some bottles of  Crane Brewing Mango Lassi in the stores, as well as growler fills.  Mango Lassi is a berliner weisse (sour) with mango, lactose, and vanilla beans!  This beer is still drinking great, and is probably our favorite Crane beer ever (bias...what?)

Our friends at Craft Republic just launched a new brand in town.  Maplewood Brewing hails from Chicago, and we’ve got 4 different cans available.   Two juicy hazy IPAs, an APA, and a killer pils. These beers come in 16oz cans, and are sold as 4pks and singles.   Craft Republic has also been rolling out the hits from Evil Twin and Fat Orange Cat.

Evil Twin continues their alphabet/gose series with the debut of ‘G’ is for Grapefruit.  This gose is brewed with, you guessed it, grapefruit!   It’s a great addition to an already awesome series. Cranberry Saus Baus is a cranberry-laden take on their previous un-fruited hazy IPA, and is the perfect accompaniment to a holiday meal.   Want dark beer? Irish-ish Stout is an imperial coffee stout with lactose, sugar, nutmeg, and vanilla!

Fat Orange Cat has been bringing lots of great hazy IPAs to the shelves, and we’ve got fresh cans of Someone In My Head and Sweet Jane.   When the Craft Republic truck rolls in tomorrow, we’ll have a few new varieties of their IPAs, including Severe Tire Damage, Drives a Plymouth,  and Orange Billy.  There will also be another new Evil Twin double IPA called Kind Of A Big Deal, so you know… it’s probably... kind of worth checking out?! Ha!  And be sure to check out all the Central State Brewing beers we’ve been stocking lately!   Hot Yoga, Snakeskin Boots and Turn The Page are all awesome hoppy additions to our coolers.

Lambic fan?  There is still a fair amount of Tilquin Oude Gueuze at the stores in 375ml bottles.  And if you poke around later this week, you may possibly see a little Drie Fonteinen as well.  It’s a great week to be a beer fan at Mike’s!

Cheers!
