New Wine Alert: McPherson Wine Company

New Wine Alert!!

Over the last few months, Joe & I have made it our mission to find new wines that over-deliver.  One of the first places we looked was Victoria, Australia.

Located on the very southern tip, just above Tasmania, Victoria is home to one of Australia’s most lively cities, Melbourne. Unlike its more successful wine-growing state to the west, South Australia, Victorian vineyards were decimated by Phylloxera, and were unable to make any sort of recovery until the 1950s. On the upside, Victoria is a fantastic place to grow grapes, making it now the most planted state in Australia, yet is only third in total production as there is very little “bulk wine” being produced. All these factors lead to Victoria producing great wines of great values.

So what did we find…one of the best bang for the buck producers on the entire continent, McPherson Wine Company.

Started in 1968 by Andrew and his wife Nicki McPherson, MWC is now handing over the reins to its second generation, Alex and Angus. While the McPherson family still handles the day to day operations, wine-making has become the work of Australia’s own Jo Nash, and her South African assistant winemaker, Olivia Forbes. Together they are producing wines of great elegance, given the generosity of fruit that the warm, coastal climate can provide.

To launch this label, new to Mike’s Wine & Spirits, we have brought in three reds, all garnering fantastic reviews from James Suckling just last week!  Stop into any of our three locations this week and try them for yourself!  All available at only $14.99!!!

Cheers!
